2017 Diabuddies Tour
This year's November awareness campaign is called 'Diabuddies". We want our T1D children to know they are not alone, they have support and to know everyone feels different sometimes (and that's okay) . Our focus is ensuring our kids with Type One Diabetes (T1D) are safe, empowered and accepted in our school communities. We will be increasing awareness across Ontario by school presentations provided by passionate parents, T1D Youth and premier speakers offering education on T1D, breaking down misconceptions and empowering students and staff. The purpose of the talk is to showcase that even with a chronic disease, a healthy, successful life can be achieved with the right support and drive. Everyone is empowered and has the ability to help their friend with Type 1 or other needs.
We have two series of presentation:
- Volunteer Presentations: Get involved YOU can JOIN US!!! Be empowered and make a difference by presenting at your school (or child's) and other schools in your community to increase T1D awareness. This maybe in the form of a classmate presentation, a school presentation, a presentation at a parent council or at a teacher staff meeting. By pressing the Be Speaker button below and filling your info we will send out a sample presentation that you can modify complete with key messages. Join our campaign... we are better together!
- Elite Athlete / Premier School Speaker(s): Selected schools will participant in a motivation talk with elite athletes / premier speakers. The presentation focuses on diabetes but use these details to address being different in a more broad context, teaching acceptance and how friends can get the best out of each other by recognizing and supporting each other's difference. Pictures of some of the atheletes can be found on the 2017 blog page. If you are interested in this for your school please press the Presentation Request button and fill out required information. Presentations are taking place between Nov 1st or Nov 30th (spaces are limited to request now)
